DIY: Organic Citrus Scrub

Because I worked in the skin industry for 4 years, I attended many seminars and workshops to learn how your skin works and what keeps it healthy. I want to give you a recipe for homemade organic body scrub and teach you how to properly exfoliate your body’s largest organ.

Exfoliation keeps your skin healthy, radiant and so soft. You have three layers of skin: the hypodermis, dermis, and the epidermis. The epidermis is the top most layer, the one you can visibly see. Your skin constantly renews itself about  every 30 days (of course it varies with age). Since this process happens so often, your skin cells are constantly shedding. That is why it is so important to exfoliate; you need to help your skin out!

A good exfoliation process means better blood flow, no body acne, no ingrown hairs, and an even skin tone. You should only exfoliate twice a week to prevent irritation and the loss of healthy skin cells. I used all organic ingredients in my recipe because everything you put on your skin is absorbed into your blood stream. Can I get an AMEN for no funky ingredients?

What You’ll Need and it’s Purpose:

Kosher Sea Salt: Increases blood flow and brings oxygen to your skin. If you have high blood pressure, I would recommend using brown sugar instead of salt.

Honey or Agave Nectar: Keeps the salt beads together.

Burt’s Bee’s Vitamin E Lemon Oil: Vitamin E promotes healing and is a great natural agent at preventing premature aging; aids in healing wrinkles and scars.

Cute Jars

Directions: Mix 2 cups of sea salt (or brown sugar), 2 tablespoons of honey (or agave nectar), and the full bottle of Burt’s Bee’s Oil in a bowl. Pour into a jar and shake before use!
