About Lauren Kennedy

Editor-in-Chief of LOLO Magazine. I was born in Redondo Beach and raised in Dallas, so I guess you can call me a California girl who’s roots are deep in the heart of Texas. My love for fashion has been tightly sewn through interning in wardrobe for Gossip Girl, the Michael Kors showroom, and reporting for New York, Paris, and Montreal Fashion Weeks. But style is what has really stolen my heart, which incorporates all of life. Cooking new recipes, learning new languages, meeting new people, indulging my curiosities, and stretching my imagination are my general crushes, and writing is my outlet for sharing my inspirations.

It was a memorable and adventurous few years at LOLO Mag. I am so excited to invite you to our whole new website, LSK. xoxo

A Dry Shampoo For Every Hair Color: Stranded

I hope you all had the most special and reflective New Year. I always love a fresh start and can’t wait for what 2017 holds. I must preface: the last two weeks of 2016 were extra special because we launched our dry shampoo powder, Stranded, as well as The Lauren Scruggs Kennedy Foundation, and both are so near and dear to my heart.

2016_12_13_lolomag8-178-editLet’s talk Stranded! I am so thrilled to introduce you to the loose powder, dry shampoo suitable for blondes, brunettes and red heads (yippee!!). It all started four years ago in our apartment with my bestie, Anna Beth, brainstorming on how we could create a legit dry shampoo without using baby powder or harmful aerosols! After SO much learning, praying, and trial and errors, it came to life! I am so thankful for how much we have learned through process, and I now have an extra respect for small business owners! Not to mention, we have learned how absolutely perfect the Lord’s timing is – we never understood the delays until now because for the tiniest detailed reasons, it could not be a better launch time. 👱🏼‍♀️

An extra fun fact: my sister and her husband joined our team almost two years ago! Extra extra fun facts: it is #parabenfree #sulfatefree #glutenfree AND #vegan 🙌🏻🍏 + we give a percentage of every sale to The Lauren Scruggs Kennedy Foundation! Stay tuned for exciting things ahead. Hint hint: a Dallas launch party will be happening in the Spring!

The Lauren Scruggs Kennedy Foundation

After my accident, my prosthetic arms brought another level of healing and wholeness, and it broke my heart to know insurance failed to provide for many. I couldn’t be more excited to announce that the Lauren Scruggs Kennedy Foundation has launched! We exist to bring hope, restore dignity, and ignite faith in girls and women by providing beautiful cosmetic coverings for prostheses. Read more about our story and mission on our website to see how you can get involved, or maybe you know someone we can serve. P.S. Any Stranded purchase gives a percentage to the foundation!

los angeles favorite: carasoin spa.

I have realized time and time again these last two years that it takes TIME to find your places in a new city: the yoga studio, the facial haven, the cozy breakfast spot. It also takes a lot of trials and errors and can sometimes feel a bit discouraging. Personal side note: I have been clinging very tightly to my Dallas spots, which makes every visit quite full of appointments. I recently made a pact with myself to find my Cali places so the precious time in Texas could fully be dedicated to family, friends, and relaxation.

Enter the hidden gem: Carasoin. I saw this recommendation from a friend on Snapchat and immediately took a screen shot, and I am so glad I did! Carasoin is the combination of two French words, Caress and Soigner, that embody the principles and philosophies of this spa; to revitalize your skin, body and soul while creating an experience that leaves you feeling exquisite. This day spa and clinic did just that and absolutely exceeded my expectations.carasoin-day-spa1

The moment you walk into the spa, it feels extra special. Carasoin is owned by the most lovely couple, and it is an embodiment of a lifelong dream by it’s Founder, Lena Bratschi. It is so special because they personalize your treatment based on your skincare needs that day. While Lena was treating my skin, I asked her how she became passionate about her business. Her answer only made me love her more! She was super close to her granny growing up, who lived in the midst of beautiful gardens in Switzerland, and she would go make homemade beauty protects straight from the plants. #dream

Other fun facts about Lena: she grew up in Switzerland, the land of incredible spas and relocated to London to pursue the best in skincare education, Lena attained the prestigious CIDESCO qualification, the highest internationally recognized certification for beauty/skincare, becoming one of only a handful of professionals in the USA to boast this qualification.

More about this dream spot: Nestled in the very heart of West Hollywood, Carasoin is a full service boutique day spa and skin clinic featuring both hands-on and cutting edge machine based treatments, from Anti-Ageing Facials to Deep Tissue Massage and Body Scrubs & Wraps to chemical peels. The spa is a mix of British and Swiss sensibilities, designed to provide a chic and intimate setting; one which feels more like you’re stepping in to an elegant home, even though you have just entered an advanced Day Spa & Skin Clinic that showcases the highest standards in skincare. Yes please!

the wine country.

To preface this post, Jase and I are not big “wine” people (enter laugh emojis). We like it on occasion, and my dad has taught me a lot about it, but we still have not developed a big desire to enjoy it often. Enter the wine country + I am going to tell you what won us over.

c699d4ec-b2ab-4a3c-bc64-9e1800329656Living in the beautiful state of California has so many benefits, one being the stunning destinations within hours of our backyard. We have heard the most lovely reviews of Napa Valley and the charming little towns surrounding it, so we decided that we would escape for a week early celebration of J’s birthday and our two year anniversary. December is always so full of the most wonderful festivities!

img_9023Jase and I flew into San Francisco and had the most beautiful drive to the wine country. Side note: our trip started out on an extra good note because I noticed an R&D Kitchen when we were starving and nearing our hotel. It is one of my favorite restaurants in all the land. After a fun dinner, we drove into our home for the next few days – the magical Auberge du Soleil. They totally spoiled us with a room upgrade for the special occasion, and we slept like babies in the coziest bed. P.S. Their bathtub was a dream, and the bathroom floors were heated. Those little details made the weekend extra special and relaxing.

img_9068On the first day, we had the yummiest breakfast at the hotel overlooking the valley. Then we adventured to Del Dotto winery first. We had a dry-humored tour guide who made the excursion and wine tastings extra fun and informative. It was such an experience to try the wine from aged barrels that were stationed in a cave. We then went to Cakebread. The sweetest man took us on such a lovely tour; it was extra special, and their wine is delicious. What I love most about the wine country is the stories behind the wineries and the families that started these farms so long ago. We ate at Press that night, and it was such a sweet time together, and it was the coziest atmosphere accompanied by the most delicious food.

img_9003img_9056Day two was our most favorite. We went to Nickel & Nickel and had the time of our lives. Our tour guide, Walt, was so passionate about wine and grapes and people + he was an absolute blast. We were with a group of Georgian dads who go every year and knew Walt well, so it was such a bonus! I was so thankful for our time there. We laughed our hearts out and cancelled our next winery because spa time at Auberge sounded just perfect. After a restful afternoon, we indulged in the most wonderful Italian food at Bottega. We couldn’t recommend it more.

img_9135Day three was our final day, and we loved the outdoor infinity pools and steam rooms too much to part. We each had the most incredible massages, packed up, and explored the darling town of Yountville. Also, I must say the wine country has extra delight in the holiday season. Beautiful wreaths, fully lit trees, and the comforting smell of garland only added to the stunning scenery of these farm towns. We had so much fun making this trip our own, and we are already excited to go back soon!

Hallmark: The Not So Ordinary Cards

This post was sponsored by Hallmark Signature through their partnership with POPSUGAR Select. While I was compensated to write a post about Hallmark Signature, all opinions are my own.

I can hardly believe the holidays are upon us. I came to a big realization this year: fall is my favorite season. I love the cozy holiday feels; the hot chocolate with homemade whipped cream, the warmth of fireplaces, the constant burn of pumpkin or pine candles, evening strolls, game nights with friends, football season, special time with family, classic Christmas movies, baking pies. Oh, I could go on and on!

Ones of the best perks this time of year is finding special gifts and cards for sweet friends and loved ones. It makes it extra fun to start far in advance. Who’s with me? Rushed gifting is obvious and takes the meaningful purpose out of finding personal presents and not so ordinary cards. Wrapped surprises are so special and temporarily exciting, but I remember the words in a card forever (and I keep it forever!). So I must admit, I have a slight obsession with Hallmark Signature holiday cards. They are truly one of a kind for the people in your life who are anything but ordinary.

Can we talk about how adorable this nutcracker card is? I can’t wait to sit down and spend time wording how grateful I am for those closest to me – my family, my precious husband, my twin sister and her husband, my dearest friends. Card writing is such an amazing way to not only bless someone else, but it is a beautiful reminder of why we should never take the relationships in our life for granted.
