I hope you all had the most special and reflective New Year. I always love a fresh start and can’t wait for what 2017 holds. I must preface: the last two weeks of 2016 were extra special because we launched our dry shampoo powder, Stranded, as well as The Lauren Scruggs Kennedy Foundation, and both are so near and dear to my heart.
Let’s talk Stranded! I am so thrilled to introduce you to the loose powder, dry shampoo suitable for blondes, brunettes and red heads (yippee!!). It all started four years ago in our apartment with my bestie, Anna Beth, brainstorming on how we could create a legit dry shampoo without using baby powder or harmful aerosols! After SO much learning, praying, and trial and errors, it came to life! I am so thankful for how much we have learned through process, and I now have an extra respect for small business owners! Not to mention, we have learned how absolutely perfect the Lord’s timing is – we never understood the delays until now because for the tiniest detailed reasons, it could not be a better launch time. 👱🏼♀️
An extra fun fact: my sister and her husband joined our team almost two years ago! Extra extra fun facts: it is #parabenfree #sulfatefree #glutenfree AND #vegan 🙌🏻🍏 + we give a percentage of every sale to The Lauren Scruggs Kennedy Foundation! Stay tuned for exciting things ahead. Hint hint: a Dallas launch party will be happening in the Spring!

I have realized time and time again these last two years that it takes TIME to find your places in a new city: the yoga studio, the facial haven, the cozy breakfast spot. It also takes a lot of trials and errors and can sometimes feel a bit discouraging. Personal side note: I have been clinging very tightly to my Dallas spots, which makes every visit quite full of appointments. I recently made a pact with myself to find my Cali places so the precious time in Texas could fully be dedicated to family, friends, and relaxation.
Enter the hidden gem: Carasoin. I saw this recommendation from a friend on Snapchat and immediately took a screen shot, and I am so glad I did! Carasoin is the combination of two French words, Caress and Soigner, that embody the principles and philosophies of this spa; to revitalize your skin, body and soul while creating an experience that leaves you feeling exquisite. This day spa and clinic did just that and absolutely exceeded my expectations.
The moment you walk into the spa, it feels extra special. Carasoin is owned by the most lovely couple, and it is an embodiment of a lifelong dream by it’s Founder, Lena Bratschi. It is so special because they personalize your treatment based on your skincare needs that day. While Lena was treating my skin, I asked her how she became passionate about her business. Her answer only made me love her more! She was super close to her granny growing up, who lived in the midst of beautiful gardens in Switzerland, and she would go make homemade beauty protects straight from the plants. #dream
Other fun facts about Lena: she grew up in Switzerland, the land of incredible spas and relocated to London to pursue the best in skincare education, Lena attained the prestigious CIDESCO qualification, the highest internationally recognized certification for beauty/skincare, becoming one of only a handful of professionals in the USA to boast this qualification.
More about this dream spot: Nestled in the very heart of West Hollywood, Carasoin is a full service boutique day spa and skin clinic featuring both hands-on and cutting edge machine based treatments, from Anti-Ageing Facials to Deep Tissue Massage and Body Scrubs & Wraps to chemical peels. The spa is a mix of British and Swiss sensibilities, designed to provide a chic and intimate setting; one which feels more like you’re stepping in to an elegant home, even though you have just entered an advanced Day Spa & Skin Clinic that showcases the highest standards in skincare. Yes please!

Check out these amazing new ColorStay ™ Eye Collection products, and the Revlon Kiss™ Balm while you are at it! The Revlon Kiss™ Balm keep your lips super hydrated and kissable as we move from fall into the cool temps. What I love most about the Kiss™ Balm: it is filled with SPF 20 and the hydrating formula is infused with natural fruit oils.
I have never been a big cake-on-makeup kind of girl. I love the beach vibe, all natural kind of glow, so my daily makeup routine reflects just that – a little on the eyes, a touch of sunscreen-filled foundation, and a bit on the lips. My top priority, though, I must admit, is a good brow + popping the eye in the most natural sense.
I can’t get enough of the Revlon ColorStay™ Eye Collection. The ColorStay™ Brow Pencil is longwearing and waterproof (yes, please!) + it has the most perfect blending spoolie brush. The unique angled tip allows for fast and easy brow definition, too.
The ColorStay 2-in- 1 Angled Kajal™ Liner makes the smoky liner application oh so easy and oh so natural with the angled liner and the brush used for blending. Did I mention it’s waterproof? So. Much. Love.
To make the set even better, the ColorStay™ Crème Eye Shadow is waterproof and lasts up to 24 hours. No joke. My favorite colors are the Praline (for a natural, bronzy look) and the Cherry Blossom for a blush tone. Not to mention, these are so easily blendable! It stays! The brilliance of it all: there is a brush built into the cap for fast, easy, and mess-free application.

Keeping my makeup minimal, simple, natural looking, and safe is something that I am always striving for. I currently have a quick and easy everyday routine that is working really well, so I wanted to share it with you. Details on the products that I use are below // xo melissa
concealer– it’s taken me a while to find a blemish + under-eye concealer that worked well, but wasn’t packed with harmful ingredients + wouldn’t cause my chin/nose to break out. I finally came across this one from bareMinerals and it’s awesome. The formula is light enough that it doesn’t clog my pores, but it still covers blemishes and under-eye circles.
brow– I use this everyday and cannot imagine my brows without glossier’s boy brow. Brows still look still look very natural after filling them in with this product, which is so important. No one wants fake looking brows!
Goop is my hero. A few months ago after much research, I felt the need to rid our home of all toxic products, everything from skin care to cleaning solutions. It was a tough move to throw out slightly used products that are said to be ultra-productive, but after I trashed all of the paraben and sulfate-filled items, it was the best feeling in the world.
I know that pure-ingredient filled skincare has a bad reputation – it’s not effective, it clogs pores, it doesn’t smell good, and the list goes on. Goop proves these statements completely wrong. The Luminous Melting Cleanser and Exfoliating Instant Facial are my new secret to glowing skin. To top it off, I conclude that in-shower treatment with the Enriching Face Oil and the Revitalizing Day Moisturizer. These products have made me excited to take care of my skin! What are your favorite healthy skin products?
*thank you goop for these products!
