los angeles favorite: carasoin spa.

I have realized time and time again these last two years that it takes TIME to find your places in a new city: the yoga studio, the facial haven, the cozy breakfast spot. It also takes a lot of trials and errors and can sometimes feel a bit discouraging. Personal side note: I have been clinging very tightly to my Dallas spots, which makes every visit quite full of appointments. I recently made a pact with myself to find my Cali places so the precious time in Texas could fully be dedicated to family, friends, and relaxation.

Enter the hidden gem: Carasoin. I saw this recommendation from a friend on Snapchat and immediately took a screen shot, and I am so glad I did! Carasoin is the combination of two French words, Caress and Soigner, that embody the principles and philosophies of this spa; to revitalize your skin, body and soul while creating an experience that leaves you feeling exquisite. This day spa and clinic did just that and absolutely exceeded my expectations.carasoin-day-spa1

The moment you walk into the spa, it feels extra special. Carasoin is owned by the most lovely couple, and it is an embodiment of a lifelong dream by it’s Founder, Lena Bratschi. It is so special because they personalize your treatment based on your skincare needs that day. While Lena was treating my skin, I asked her how she became passionate about her business. Her answer only made me love her more! She was super close to her granny growing up, who lived in the midst of beautiful gardens in Switzerland, and she would go make homemade beauty protects straight from the plants. #dream

Other fun facts about Lena: she grew up in Switzerland, the land of incredible spas and relocated to London to pursue the best in skincare education, Lena attained the prestigious CIDESCO qualification, the highest internationally recognized certification for beauty/skincare, becoming one of only a handful of professionals in the USA to boast this qualification.

More about this dream spot: Nestled in the very heart of West Hollywood, Carasoin is a full service boutique day spa and skin clinic featuring both hands-on and cutting edge machine based treatments, from Anti-Ageing Facials to Deep Tissue Massage and Body Scrubs & Wraps to chemical peels. The spa is a mix of British and Swiss sensibilities, designed to provide a chic and intimate setting; one which feels more like you’re stepping in to an elegant home, even though you have just entered an advanced Day Spa & Skin Clinic that showcases the highest standards in skincare. Yes please!

My Skin Care Routine.

I must admit that beauty products are my vice, to the point where my girlfriends joke that my bathroom feels like a spa. I am all about healthy skin and hair, and my frequent research fills up my online shopping carts quite quickly. I love trial and error-ing, and with that being said, I am going to walk you through my current skin care regimen that I love and live by:

Before heading to bed, it is so important to wash your face to cleanse away all of the impurities from the day. This is my favorite facial cleanser. Her products have changed my skin these last few years + they lack harmful ingredients and are incredibly rich in nourishing vitamins and  minerals (you know my heart, Rhonda Allison).

I must admit, face masks might be my favorite past time. The Mask of Magnaminty is a dream + the peppermint oil tingles your face a bit – I love when I feel a product working and nourishing! Who’s with me? My other go-to is the Charlotte Tibury Goddess Skin Clay Mask. It gives you dewy skin and boosts collagen! Last but not least, I am obsessed with the Kate Somerville EradiKate Mask. This dissolves impurities without drying out your skin. I love switching between the three throughout the week!

I have learned this the hard way: moisturizing your skin actually reduces unwanted oil because it gives your skin what it needs before it produces its own unhealthy shine. Don’t dry it out!! These are my favorite night-time moisturizers: first I use Nerium Night Cream (it has changed my skin), and then I will use Wexler Intensive Night Repair or coat my face with coconut oil.

The sun is the biggest culprit for skin damage, so it is so important to protect against it! Every day, I put on Nerium Day Cream and then top it with Kate Somerville Daily Deflector or Murad Essential C Daily Mouisture. Happy protecting and anti-aging!

my dry skin secret.

When the weather shifts to ultra-chilly, my skin gets crazy dry. It even still appears dull even when I use my most intense moisturizer. The worst! Last week, my boxing trainer, who I go to for all health tactics because of his insane knowledge, suggested that I start using grapeseed oil on my face before I go to bed. I went immediately to Whole Foods to make the purchase, and only after two nights of using this miraculous substance, I noticed a massive difference in my complexion. I woke up with bright and plumped skin. The weather shift caused a few break outs too, and those were completely cleared up after two nights.

I went to see my esthetician a few days later, and she told me that grapeseed oil truly is one of the best things for your skin. She said it evens out oil production, which will in turn clear up acne. It is a brilliant serum that increases antioxidant capabilities.

This natural, pure product will never leave my beauty routine. It’s seemingly miraculous, and the cost is super low. Obsessed.

Beat Dry Skin: My Personal Cocktail under $20

It never seems to fail that with the change of seasons comes an extreme drought for my skin. It’s like the awesome cool breeze sucks the moisture right out, and when the winter comes in full force, the problem only gets worse. This season, I was bound to put a stop to this madness. I don’t know about you, but I want moist, plump and clear skin that has that dewy glow! Good news: after some trial and errors, I have come to a concoction conclusion that has brought my skin back to life.

The non-magical, yet seemingly magical method:

At night, mask your face with Skin Organic’s Peppermint Milk cleanser. Let it soak into your skin for at least 10 minutes. The kicker: the longer you let it soak into your skin, the better. I like to leave it on for an hour or two. Wash it off gently with warm water and a wash cloth.  Next, spray the Skin Organic’s Cucumber Mist Hydrating Mist on your face after you wash off the cleanser. Let it soak into your skin, and then top that with moisturizer. (I use the Goji Azelaic serum). Spray the hydrating mist on your face anytime it feels dry!

You should see a major difference in your skin in a few days!

Beauty Spotlight: Bright Lights, Beautiful City

Trending for spring are bright colors – everywhere you look from pillows, shoes, and lip colors that match. Wearing bright eye shadows or lipsticks can be stressful to some but essentially the goal is a look that is glowing and easy-breezy. I’ve created a look which works for almost everyone using products that create luminous healthy looking skin that “gives good glow.”

Let’s begin with: beauty starts with skin care! I’ve said it time and time again, it is much better to have flawless skin over a flawless foundation so do not overlook the importance of a skin care regimen. I’m a little OCD when it comes to skin care and I’ve always been a product junkie, but this is a large subject we will continue with next month (I could write a book on skin care with what I’ve learned over the years). This month we highlight achieving the perfect glow and how to play with bright colors while keeping a look that is natural and never over done.

Choosing the right products: finding the right coverage and an illuminator that works with your skin tone/texture is very important. I often will use a concealer and powder bronzer rather than layering foundation, concealer, powders and creams all together. Day to day makeup should be light, easy, and quick to apply – only when a camera gets involved do I add a little extra. So for most a little concealer (around the nose, eyes and on any spots/red areas) blended out with a bronzer can be all that’s needed. If you prefer a foundation I suggest something that has a light to medium coverage and I would recommended purchasing foundation that does not have skin care claims – those claims are best left for your moisturizer or serum to handle. Your foundation shouldn’t be over formulated otherwise the end result will most likely be cakey, flaky or dull. Please, I beg, keep skin care separate from makeup.

When it’s time to play with color I suggest adding a perfect pink or red lip-gloss/lip-stick to your collection. It may take a little shopping around but finding the right shade and texture is more important than you may think – if in doubt go for sheer! If you do decide on sporting a bright lip, keep the eyes minimal. I like using peachy or champagne colored illuminating eye shadows. No dark crease color necessary, however feel free to add a little of your blush color on the center of the crease/lid area. Finish with mascara and for day skip the liner – the mascara usually is all that’s needed for some definition. It’s quick and easy with this application to add and go into an evening look.

If you are looking for a product to reflect the light and add a glow try to avoid anything that has glitter. There is a big difference between glitter and shimmer- there are few times glitter is okay but it’s never during the day. I like using a cream that can be easily blended with a brush or fingers onto the cheeks, lips, and around the eyes. Depending on your preference (if you’re oily or combination skin go for powders) there are many options on the market to choose from. Also remember to avoid colors that weigh too heavily on the metallic side, unless of course you are actually on your way to the club.
