growing roots in LA.

Have any of you moved from the comfort of your home town to a brand new city? It’s hard and exciting, scary and exhilarating all at the same time, right? A melting pot of emotions in full effect. The unknown creates such drive and adventure, but at the same time, bursts of homesickness creep in. Before my move two years ago to beautiful Los Angeles, I had only experienced short term city swaps from Dallas to the Big Apple. Knowing I would be there for a few months created this ambition to experience all I could before I would arrive back home. Now, I am in for a new situation – coming to grips with the reality that Los Angeles might be home for life.

So how do you begin?

Correct me if I am wrong, but the people that closely surround you develops the comfort of home. Yes, the local coffee shop or the running trail adds to the familiarity, but community at large is what settles you in. I must brag for a minute on my sweet man; Jason has been the most patient and grace-filled husband who has pushed me to grow in comfort with his already created California community (12 years and counting), and has been the one I run to to be reminded of how to make new friends. But, seriously! {enter laughing emoji}.

Side note: as you know, it takes intention and vulnerability to develop new close relationships! If we are honest, it can be utterly intimidating and exhausting. My piece of advice: stop expecting friendships to immediately be the same as your life-long ones at home, don’t lose hope, and enjoy the process! Allow yourself to be vulnerable + allow yourself to go outside of your comfort zone. That’s what builds the depth and fights against loneliness.

I was talking to a friend today who moved to LA at the same time I did about two years ago, and we were confirming that it takes TIME to feel at home in a new city. The two of us have walked this journey together, of one day despising the traffic-filled canyons to the next day obsessing over the beach towns and stunning hiking trails in the neighborhood. The conclusion: we have learned to be patient with ourselves, realize the beauty around us and great progress we are making (even if it feels slower than we expected).

Let’s be honest. It takes time to create a new home – to find and decorate a living space, to discover a new Pilates studio and juice shop, or your go-to breakfast cafe. Although they take research and test-tries, when you connect with a place, it’s such a victory!

Be grateful for the opportunity that takes you outside of your familiarity and adds more depth and strength to your life. P.S. It’s okay to still have those missing home blues, too! The streets you grew up on will be home forever.

For the Weekend Cheat Day: LA’s Go Burger!

If you’re like me, you have days where you crave nothing more than an all around amazing burger; and if you are going to have a “cheat day” from healthy food, it better be worth it, aka it better be perfectly cooked beef, perfectly complemented toppings, and toasted, (yet soft), bread.

My absolute favorite place to go for the BEST burgers in Los Angeles is GO BURGER on Sunset Boulevard. Each entrée is heaven on a plate. They have plenty of options to choose from; such as 100% Black Angus beef burgers, turkey burgers, salmon and house-made Veggie Falafel burgers, and 100% American Kobe beef hotdogs. The great thing about GO BURGER is that if you decide a “cheat day” is not an option for you, the Salmon or Veggie Falafel burgers are a healthier alternative. Being a frequent customer, the salads are scrumptious as well.

Once you have had any of the sides offered at GO BURGER, you will be dreaming about them in your sleep, (if you weren’t already drooling on your pillow while fantasizing about the burgers). Comfort food like Mac N’ Cheese and corn on the cob, and an array of fries; Skinny fries, Waffle fries, Sweet Potato fries, and Duck Fat fries. Yes, fries that are doubly fried in duck fat. Are you hearing the hallelujah angels yet? There are also yummy onion rings, cole slaw, and an arugula&radish salad.

Now, for the perfect meal topper, it is essential that you order one of their incredible milkshakes! They have choices for children in addition to adult selections when you need to wind down from a long day. Let me tell you from a personal taste test…the best shake I have had! Creamy and delicious, any of the GO BURGER shakes will be a perfect match to go with your meal, or a crowning dessert when you are done. GO BURGER has a casual and open environment with exceptional service, sure to have you coming back for more.

Don’t worry sports fans; you won’t have to miss a single play when you want GOBURGER. They have Sunday Brunch Kickoff! They open the doors at 10:00am with NFL Sunday Ticket on the televisions. GOBURGER even has specials like a build-your-own Bloody May bar and Mimosa pitchers for just $10! Along with, buckets of Guinness Black Lager, 5 for $5. Last but not least, drum roll please, the Burger Benedict.  Monday Night Football offers another selection of awesome food. They create two team-themed burgers that go head-to-head for the title of “Burger of the Week!” Um, HELLO, sign me up. Now green light to GO BURGER! There’s a table waiting for you.

The Story Behind the Blogger: Tracy Nour

Los Angeles is a city saturated with places to play, love, and see! For non-locals and residents alike, the over-population of awesomeness needs a personal perspective, lenses to look through to spot the newest hot spots (or maybe old ones that are super cool and totally loveable). So for you travel fiends and city explorers, fashionistas and personal style blog addicts, head over to exploRED in Los Angeles. After one scroll down the page, it’s bound to end up on your favorites!

Why did you start blogging?

I started blogging after I moved to LA so that I would have an “excuse” to really get out and explore myself and the city. Beyond this, I wanted something to put all of the things I loved in one place. I love fashion, traveling, music, etc. and I wanted to be able to share this with my friends and family. I found after a month or so that my outfit posts were getting the most attention, which was flattering of course, so I have really tried to incorporate fashion as much as I can.

What inspired you to start it?

I was sitting at my desk at work, looking through some online shops when my friend leaned over and asked me why I don’t look at fashion blogs. She immediately showed me all of her favorites and I was so overwhelmed (in a good way) by all of the amazing photography and clothing. I thought, “Wow, I could do this!” and I went out a few days later, bought a DSLR camera, and started exploREDinLA.

What is your favorite part about it?

My favorite part about having a blog is having an archive of memories. I love going through old posts and reminiscing on what I was doing that day or how fun all of the different experiences were. It’s really amazing to have a digital “memory box” versus the ones I had in high school full of printed out photos and concert tickets… It’s also fun to see how I’ve changed even since I started. Sometimes I look at old posts and I’m like “I wore that?!” It’s just fun…

What is the mission for your blog? In what ways do you hope to influence others?

My mission is to give people inspiration to get motivated, to take risks and do what they love. I think it’s great to take risks in fashion and hopefully, through my own, I can inspire others to do the same. Through sharing music, restaurants and events, I hope to help others discover something new that they may not have found on their own.

What is your favorite restaurant in LA?

My favorite restaurant, as of right now, is Echi Sushi. It’s super casual, in walking distance from my house, and has the best fish and seafood I’ve had in LA. I get the baked mussels appetizer and a California hand roll probably 3 times a week… my friends tell me I’m going to turn into a sea creature. Oh well! It’s sooo yummy!

Favorite coffee shop?

Favorite coffee shop is probably Urth Cafe. Cliche, I know, but it’s the best place to people watch and has great boba tea.

Favorite store to shop?

My favorite store to shop is Kitson on Robertson Blvd. I love that there’s always new stuff from designers all over the world, and it doesn’t carry what every other store has. Also, I can’t walk through without laughing out loud reading the quirky book titles and little knickknacks.

Style icon?

My celebrity style icon is Kourtney Kardashian. She always looks so put together and classy, but not boring. She stands out in a room and her outfits are always stunning. On top of all of this, the way she carries herself is beautiful in itself.
